Tangalle Pickup: Traditional Batik Making Workshop & Factory

Overview
Step into the vibrant world of Sri Lankan batik at Shermila Batiks, a family-run workshop established in 1991. Passed down to the second generation, the workshop continues to celebrate creativity, culture, and traditional craftsmanship.
Located in Koggala, just a short drive from Galle, the factory and gallery showcase authentic handcrafted clothing, accessories, and home décor, each piece reflecting Sri Lanka’s rich heritage, intricate designs, and natural dyes.
Start with a guided factory tour to see skilled artisans transform plain fabric into colorful batik art using the centuries-old wax-resist dyeing technique. Watch each step—drawing, waxing, dyeing, and boiling—as fabric comes alive with intricate patterns.
Next, take part in a hands-on workshop and create your own batik masterpiece. Guided by experienced artisans, you’ll design, wax, and dye your fabric, leaving with a one-of-a-kind souvenir and an unforgettable cultural experience.
