Haputale: Tea Trail Guided Walk with Lunch and Tea factory

Begin your journey in the cool highlands of Haputale, surrounded by rolling green hills and endless tea plantations. The walk takes you through some of the most scenic estates in Sri Lanka, offering sweeping views of misty mountains and valleys. Along the way, you will meet the tea pluckers, often called tea ladies, dressed in vibrant colors as they carefully harvest leaves using the traditional method of selecting two leaves and a bud.

You will have the chance to spend time with them and even try tea plucking yourself. This hands on experience offers a deeper appreciation for the skill and effort behind every cup of tea. The journey continues with a warm visit to a tea plucker’s home, where you will be welcomed with freshly brewed tea, giving you a rare and authentic glimpse into plantation life.

A relaxing picnic lunch is served amidst the tea fields, allowing you to unwind while surrounded by peaceful landscapes. The trail then leads you uphill toward Lipton’s Seat, one of the most iconic viewpoints in Sri Lanka. At the summit, enjoy breathtaking panoramic views stretching across valleys, reservoirs, and plantations. You will also see the statue of Sir Thomas Lipton, who once stood here overlooking his tea empire.

The experience concludes with a visit to Dambatenne Tea Factory, built in 1890. Here you will learn the full tea making process, from leaf to cup, including withering, rolling, fermenting, drying, and grading. End your journey with a fresh cup of locally produced tea, completing a truly immersive Sri Lankan tea experience.
