Hanthana Lizard’s Back Trekking Adventure from Kandy

Begin your adventure with a pickup from your Kandy hotel. Depending on the weather, the trail begins from Hanthana Mountain or Galaha Town.

Set off on a 7-9 hour hike through rolling tea estates and pine forests to the dramatic Katusu Konda ridge — the “Lizard’s Back” — where panoramic 360° views stretch across Kandy and the Knuckles Range.

Located only a few kilometers from Kandy, the Hanthana Mountain Range spans seven peaks rising above 1,200 m. Declared an Environmental Protection Area, it shelters birds, butterflies, and native flora. Within it lies Katusu Konda, the narrow ridge known as the Lizard’s Back, famous for its thrilling drop-offs and sweeping 360° views.

Difficulty: Moderate to hard — includes uneven natural terrain, steep climbs, and a narrow final ridge (“Lizard’s Back”) that requires good balance and care. Suitable for hikers with some experience and a reasonable level of fitness.
