Galle & Bentota Coastal Escape from Colombo

Overview
You will be picked up from your hotel in Colombo and begin your journey toward Galle, heading down the scenic southern coastal road. Along the way, you'll pass through lively local towns, where you can see roadside fish stalls, and dry fish hanging out in the sun.
Your first stop will be at Bentota Beach, where you'll have a chance to relax and take in the coastal scenery—a perfect spot for a quick photo opportunity and a breath of sea air.
Next, you'll visit a Sea Turtle Hatchery and Conservation Center, where you can learn about the local efforts to protect and rehabilitate endangered sea turtles. This is a wonderful chance to see baby turtles and understand their lifecycle.
Afterwards, a short 20-minute drive takes you to the Madu Ganga River, where you'll embark on a peaceful mangrove boat safari. Cruise through the winding waterways surrounded by dense mangrove forests and spot local wildlife. A highlight of the river experience is a visit to Cinnamon Island, where you’ll learn how cinnamon is harvested and processed, and get a deeper understanding of the region’s rich spice heritage.
Following your river safari, you’ll stop for lunch at a local restaurant (approximately a 30-minute drive), where you can enjoy some delicious Sri Lankan cuisine.
In the afternoon, you’ll continue to the charming city of Galle. Explore the historic Galle Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You’ll have time to walk along the ramparts, visit the iconic lighthouse, explore the Galle Dutch Reformed Church, and admire stunning aerial views of the sea.
