Belihuloya: Hawagala Hiking Trail Guided Tour

Begin your adventure in the peaceful village of Landuyaya, located near Belihuloya in Sri Lanka’s scenic highlands. After a short transfer by TukTuk or Jeep, you will reach the trailhead and start your guided hike toward the iconic Hawagala summit.

The trail takes you through beautiful montane forests and open grasslands rich in biodiversity. Along the way, you may spot endemic bird species, colorful butterflies, and unique plant life that thrive in this cool climate. Your experienced nature guide will share insights about the ecosystem, making the journey both educational and enjoyable.

As you ascend, the terrain becomes steeper with uneven paths, adding a sense of adventure to the hike. After approximately two to three hours of trekking, you will reach the summit at around 1400 meters above sea level. From here, enjoy breathtaking panoramic views stretching across the southern highlands, including Horton Plains, Haputale range, Bandarawela, Samanala Wewa, Udawalawe, and even glimpses of the distant Hambantota coastline on clear days.

Hawagala itself is a geological wonder, appearing as a massive stone formation rising sharply from the surrounding landscape. Its unique cuboid shape creates a dramatic and unforgettable visual experience.

After taking in the views and relaxing at the summit, descend back to the starting point and return to Belihuloya for a well deserved lunch at the Belihuloya Trails Restaurant.
